How To Prep for College

"Where are you going to college?" The most frequently asked question that we were all bombarded with our senior year of high school. From the crazy college parties we heard about to our parents saying that these will be the best four years of our lives, the idea of prepping for college somehow seemed to get lost in the realm of all college discussion.

Prepping for college definitely isn't something high school prepares you for (at least that's what I thought). I never felt like I knew what to expect when I got to college. How my classes were going to go, what my professors were going to be like or how I was going to manage my schedule.

College can be intimidating, especially if you're a senior thinking about pursuing a college degree. Luckily, I had the opportunity to interview a freshman from Aurora University who has given me great insight about her first semester of her freshman experience (see video below)! If you're looking for tips on how to prep for college, below are also three things you can do to get yourself a step ahead of the game!

1. Figure Out If College is Right For You

We have all heard that college isn't for everyone. Whether we want to believe it or not is personal opinion; however, I truly believe that school isn't for everyone. Going to a trade school or finding a job after high school is often what students find they want to do. Figure out if college is something you want. This isn't always an easy decision (especially when you feel under pressure), but once you make this decision you can continue to take the next step towards what you want to pursue!

2. Trust me, it's worth a Google

If you're unsure about what's the right fit for you, you may need to search your options. Finding a college is never easy, especially when you're trying to find where the most money is at. Research. Find out what majors they offer and where you see yourself at. Look up their residence life and what clubs and organizations they offer on campus. Schedule a tour. These are all things that will help you get ahead on your decision and will give you a better idea about the college experience. P.S. - There is more than just one perfect college, so have options!

3. Talk to Friends

Stay in touch with all your friends who left for college. Plan a weekend to visit them and ask them their experience. It always helps being able to talk to someone who is going through it and who will be brutally honest about it all. They will be the ones to help you most in deciding if college is the right fit for you!

College isn't all fun and games; it involves a lot of hard work and determination. But that's not to say it isn't fun - college is the best years of your life and that's why you need to make the most of it!

Freshman from Aurora University, Jamie, gives us some insight into her first semester as a freshman at Aurora University (thanks Jamie)! Don't forget to click below, as she shares her struggles and experiences throughout her freshman year so far!
